The Chancellor's Utopia - RootJam 2024

Political power comes only through sacrifice of your ideals.

As the chancellor, you play the elected leader of peace loving denizens, seeking freedoms not afforded under their previous tyrannical rulers. As a champion of your people, your goal was to prosper an independent, equal and free thinking society, and to celebrate your newfound freedoms at glorious palaces. 

However, the realities of the political landscape of the woodland and the aggression of neighbouring factions threatens this peace. Though unpopular, emergency powers have been granted to allow you to do what is necessary for your republic to endure. Under the threat of extinction, your ideals must be compromised to ensure survival.

As principles are sacrificed, you become disillusioned and increasingly determined to hold onto your own power and wealth. As your corruption and control expands, so too does your power to conscript and dictate to your followers. Support from your subjects dwindles leading to deserters and decreased card draw, while points scored from increasingly lacklustre celebrations of freedom declines. Your personal glory and growing greed must instead be satiated with crafted riches, and conquest of neighbouring lands. Your legacy will survive, but at what cost?
